Course Overview
Pharmacology I introduces the principles of drug action and the major medication classes nurses administer. Students master pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion), pharmacodynamics, dose calculations, and the six rights of medication administration. The course emphasizes high-alert medications, black-box warnings, client teaching, and the nurse's role in preventing medication errors across cardiovascular, endocrine, antimicrobial, analgesic, and psychotropic drug classes.
